The results are in for August’s Run of the Month where the shortlist contained no fewer than 13 nominations, most of whom were past winners of this award. This time though we had a new winner in Evie Menzies, nominated for her personal best run of 19:02 at our own QA 5k. Huge well done to Evie on being recognised by her fellow PH members. It’s certainly well deserved as she is a regular at training and is clearly getting faster and faster.

It was quite a close vote, which was not surprising given the number outstanding performances during the month. We had four nominations from the Scottish Masters Track Championships, back at the start of the month. Mary Western, Roger Clark and Malcolm Hammond picked up double gold, while Alistair Radbourne won two silver medals in the sprints.

July’s Run of the Month winner, Peter Gibson was also nominated for the QA 5k, where he had the fastest time for PH of 16:26, also a new personal best. There was another race win for Gayle Lindsay at the Graham Clark Memorial Race at Knockhill. Mark McLean was nominated for his run of 1:24:38 at the Scottish Half in East Lothian.

The remaining five nominations all came from the Kirkcaldy Parks Running Festival where, as previously reported, Gillian Wallace, Julie Menzies and Kristin Lownie took a clean sweep of female race wins in the 5k, 10k and Half Marathon respectively. Andrew Wright also took an overall win in the 10k and Luke McNeil placed third at the Half Marathon.

There were plenty of other excellent runs during the month which could easily have also ended up on the ballot and there have already been some outstanding runs in September including the Stuart Duncan 5k and Stirling 10k so we should have another competitive vote.

Thanks to Graeme Baxter for the QA 5k race photography.
