There was plenty to celebrate for PH Racing Club at Tuesday’s Stuart Duncan Memorial 5k in Glenrothes, with nine club members taking on the fast out-and-back course on a miserable evening.

The no-nonsense course starts with an uphill section before flattening out, turning back through the underpasses and eventually dropping downhill, making for a fast final section to the finish.

Leading the PH charge was Dan Monaghan, who finished an excellent 3rd overall in 16:47. Running his first race since the London Marathon, Dan found himself running solo from around half a mile into the race but held on superbly to secure a well-earned podium finish.

There was also a great performance from Mark McLean, who took 1st place in the M50 category in 18:55, just days after racing the Kirkcaldy Half Marathon at the weekend. Kevin Hughes added another M50 podium, finishing 3rd in 20:08, just one second ahead of Michael Lindsay.

Mark Western continued his excellent form to take 1st M60 in 20:58, while Gillian Wallace claimed 3rd woman in 21:36, another podium to add to her 5k victory at the Kirkcaldy Trail Race on Saturday. Lauren Bennet was very happy to run a new personal best time of 24:02, while Dave Morton enjoyed running his first official race with his son. Ross Bennet was pleased to come in position 69, timing at 26:23, his fastest for over two years.

A great turnout from the club on a pretty dreich night, with plenty of strong performances and five podium finishes to show for it. Well done to everyone who raced, and thanks to the Duncan family and Fife AC for putting on another straightforward, well-organised event in Stuart’s memory.
