PH Racing Club’s Johnny Cassells put in another superb marathon performance at last Sunday’s Málaga Marathon to break the 2 hour 50 minutes barrier for the first time. Having broken 3 hours twice at Loch Ness and then in Valencia the last two years Cassells had once again increased his mileage in an attempt to break his personal best time of 2:52:48.
Some foot pain in the days leading up to the race had caused concern that he may fall on his sword, however it was another brilliantly executed race with consistent pacing throughout and a pick up at the end to secure a new best time of 2:49:18.
I’m sure no one would bet against Johnny bettering the current club V40 record of 2:45:41, held by Graeme Doig, but with a big birthday coming up it might be V50 record holder Willie Rennie who should be looking over his shoulder as his record time of 3:03:15 must surely be under threat next year.
Well done to Johnny on another great race from all at PH Racing Club.
