PH Racing Club’s small but enthusiastic junior membership was to the fore at last week’s Mini Tour of Fife, organised by Fife AC.  Like the senior equivalent , the event comprises five races over five days, on varied terrain, with the places decided on cumulative time.

Andrew Thomson had a superb week finishing second under 18 while Aaron Bennet also performed admirably, finishing in fifth position in the under 15 category.

The tour started on Monday with a beach race in St Andrews where Aaron finished in fourth place in his category with a time of 22:40. In the U18 category Andrew Thomson placed second with a run of 19:18, exactly the same time as Michael Sanderson in first place.

Race two was a hill race up and down Falkland Hill. This was not Aaron’s strong point finishing seventh but he still kept sixth place in the tour with a time of 26:46. Andrew roared up the hill in first place but soon realised, going down a hill is a lot harder than it looks and finished second in a time of 20:11 to maintain second overall.

The third race was a cross country type race at Kellie Farm. Aaron Bennet had a strong run on a course that suited him. He finished fourth in a time of 21.58 to maintain sixth place. Andrew Thomson finished second again maintaining second overall with a time of 19:03.

Race four was a time trial at Hill of Tarvit with a distance of 2.1k. Aaron maintained sixth place in his division with a time of 8:18 while Andrew ran 7:04, only 9 seconds behind first place, to consolidate second.

Aaron finished the tour off with fourth place in a time of 19:13 at the multi-terrain race at Kingsbarns. Andrew Thomson finished second in his category with a time of 17:10 over approximately 5k to cement his position of fifth overall.

Well done to both boys on an excellent week’s racing and special mention also to Jaden Mackay who completed the five races in the under 9 category.  Though not old enough to be an official member of PH he nevertheless sported a club vest and can be very proud of how well he acquitted himself.

Andrew and Aaron enjoyed running at West Sands so much they were back on Sunday for the Chariots of Fire 5k with Andrew claiming 8th position in 19:20, only two seconds ahead of club mate Joe Wilson, both pictured here in the traditional white attire.  Aaron finished his race in 21:44 and both boys will now be having a well earned rest!
