PH Racing Club’s Karen Kennedy continued her excellent form placing 1st lady at Saturday’s Cupar 5 Mile Road Race. Karen, who led the ladies race from gun to tape, recorded a time of 31.25 on the windswept out and back course finishing clear of 2nd placed Maya Stone (Fife AC) who clocked 32.39. Team mate Clare Graham ran her first 5 mile race timing at 38.28 and Lesley Mealing crossed the line in 44.18.
Fourteen PH men were amongst the 219 finishers of the popular Fife AC organised event with Darren Jubb earning a top ten finish timing at 28.01 in 8th place. Rab Sellar was the next PH athlete to finishing covering his 5 miles in 29.38. Wright Beveridge, Johnny Cassells and Iain Taylor enjoyed a good tussle through the race with Wright forging ahead over the final mile taking 25th place in 30.37. Johnny Cassells was hot on his heels clocking 30.38 (26th) while Iain Taylor was the leading M50 athlete placing 27th overall in 30.42.
Martin Butcher dipped under 31 minutes (30.55) in 31st place and Andy Jannetta was 33rd in 31.15. Alan Cockburn on his return from a recent injury blew the cobwebs away with a strong race finishing 48th in 32.08. David Henderson clocked 33.03 (59th), Michael Lindsay, 33.10 (62nd) and Ian Johnston placed 2nd M60 in 34.39 (80th overall). Darran Neilson reached the finish in 34.57 (82nd) while Ed Norton on his return to fitness timed at 36.59 (105th) and Allen Marr was 110th in 37.26.
It is fair to say that a very strong headwind hampered times today but those taking part all put in a sterling effort. The men’s race was won by the host club’s Lewis Rodgers in 26.16 who led Fife AC to the first three positions with Ryan Lafferty taking 2nd in 26.25 and Owen Miller, 3rd in 26.28.
Thanks to organisers Fife AC and to Kristin Lownie for the excellent race photos.
