Saturday saw the best of the East District head north to Aberdeen for the East District XC Championship. Balgownie Playing Fields were the setting and provided a fantastic traditional grassy cross country course with long muddy climbs, steep descents and fast straights.

Karen Kennedy was the pick of the bunch for PH winning a V40 Bronze medal in a masters field stacked with quality. Kennedy powered through the 8.5km course showing her strength on the hills to finish 22nd overall, in a time of 36:31. Ladies Captain, Mary Western, also had a fine run and was second home for PH and was 3rd V50 in a time of 37:45.

The 8.5km Men’s race saw a top draw field littered with class, including runners who have represented GB internationally, won Commonwealth Games medals and won international XC championships. As expected, the race started at a pace more akin to a 1500m but this did not phase PH Racing Club Champion, Darren Jubb, who more than held his own to come home in a very impressive 39th place, clocking 30:28 to continue his fine form. Dan Monaghan performed well and was second home for the men, with a strong finish to clock 31:59 and secure 60th overall.

Earlier in the day, Aaron Bennet, faced his toughest test yet in the Under 15 Boys race. Bennet completed the testing 4km course in a very respectable time of 17:08, finishing in 36th place.

Well done to all and thanks to Steve Adam and Pete Bracegirdle for the excellent photos.
