On Saturday the East District Cross Country Championships were held at Deans in Livingston and a good number of PH athletes competed.

Karen Kennedy, fresh from her race at the recent international in Derry, and Mary Western both made the top 10 of the women’s masters race with Karen in sixth position and first V45 in 26.25. Mary was less than a minute behind, in tenth position and second V55, covering the undulating two lap course in 27.19. The ladies team was completed by Paula Frame, making her PH cross country debut, and Lesley Mealing who helped the team finish in 12th position overall.

In the men’s race the quickest run in PH colours came from debutant Andrew Wright, 40th in 33.54, though unfortunately he was not yet eligible as a counter for the team. First counter home was the ever-improving Dan Monaghan in 35.28 and he was followed by Jonathan Peebles (36.27), Tommy Lawrence, making his cross country bow for PH (37.35), and Wright Beveridge (37.54). Completing the counters to put the men’s team in 14th position were Mark Mackenzie, continuing his recent good form, and Scott Love, with Pete Simpson and Andy Jannetta both only seconds behind. Relative newcomer to cross country Ed Norton finished as first V65 in 43.36 while Niall Balloch was the other PH finisher.

Well done to all on a good weekend’s racing. Thanks to the organisers and to Steve Adam, Sharyn Ramage and Xpression Photography for the excellent race photographs.
