We had a new race on the menu for our Club Championships, with 11 members making the trip along to Anstruther for the East Neuk 10k. This event is an out and back, mostly on farm roads and tracks, and competitors had to deal with a strong headwind on the way out, though there was of course some benefit to be had on the return.
First finisher for PH Racing Club was Aaron Bennet who came home fifth overall in 38:08 to collect 50 precious Club Championship points. Scott Love finished just outside the top ten in 40:42, and was closely followed by Bob Irving and Alexander McDonald.
Our only prize winner on the day was John Crookston, whose run of 43:09 won the V60 prize, and he was quickly followed by Michael Lindsay and Mark McKenzie. Sarah Paterson was the first PH female, timing at 45:57, ahead of Mark Western, who clocked 45:57. Clare Graham and Ross Bennet also picked up valuable points finishing in 54:09 and 54:59 respectively.
Also on Sunday, Struan Ross was taking on the Men’s 10k over in Edinburgh, where he had another good run, finishing in 37:29. Meanwhile, in Copenhagen, Dave Morton was running the half which this year doubled as the World Half Marathon Championships, meaning Dave can lay claim to finishing in the top 15,000 in the world!
The previous night, we had two members taking part in the Fast ‘n’ Flat 5k in Linlithgow, which also took place in blustery conditions. This event is a seeded 5k, similar to our own QA 5k, and we had athletes in two of the heats. Dan Monaghan was the faster of the pair, with 16:32 in race 3, and Andy Jannetta running 18:12 in race 4.
