The Scottish Athletics East District Cross Country Championships at took place yesterday at Stirling University with more success for PH Racing Club, unsurprisingly in the masters category.

It was the turn of Kristin Lownie, who only recently joined the veteran ranks, to win a Scottish Athletics medal. Lownie’s time of 37:50 secured bronze behind Jill Stephen of HBT and Edel Mooney of Ochil Hill Runners. Julie Menzies was 6th master, covering the 8.6km course in 38:40 while Louise Lessels completed the masters team of three which finished in 3rd place with a time of 43:26. Also running was Susan Allan who made up the senior ladies four having timed at 51:02.

It was then the turn of the men to take on the same hilly three lap course which was certainly muddy by then if it wasn’t before. Andrew Davis was the fastest of the PH contingent, finishing as 4th master in 32:13. He combined with Paul Kieran (34:28) and Mark Webster (36:08) to finish as the 2nd masters team. Although there were no V60 medals on offer, John Crookston finished 3rd in his category in 39:21. Not far behind was Michael Lindsay who completed his first cross country race for a couple of years in 39:48. It was a first XC outing since school for Paul Hammond who finished in 41:50 and Mark Western was just behind him, clocking 42:04.

Well done to all and thanks to organisers Central AC and Scottish Athletics for an excellent event. Thanks also to Neil Renton for the photo of the women’s masters medallists and John Mill for the race photo.
