While most of those involved in Scottish athletics were enjoying the end of the Tokyo Olympics and celebrating Scotland’s first individual medals in 33 years, three PH athletes were in action in the Scottish Masters 10000m Championships in Greenock on Sunday.
First up was Malcolm Hammond who collected, to our knowledge, his first national medal, a gold in the V70 category, having covered the 25 laps in 44:08.66. This also ranks Malcolm first in the UK for his age category in 2021.
After that, Mary and Mark Western were both in the same race and picked up medals in the V55 categories. Mary won gold with her time of 43:36.17 also topping the UK ranking for the year.
Just ahead of her was husband Mark, clocking 42:28.24 to take home a bronze medal and hit the UK top 10 for the year. Like Malcolm and Mary, it was his first attempt at this distance on the track.
Well done to all three on their latest achievements and thanks to Peter Wilson and Ken McArthur for the excellent race photographs.
