Friday 30th July saw the inaugural running of the QA 5k organised by PH Racing Club at Queen Anne High School, licensed by Scottish Athletics.
This was an evening of competitively graded 5km running races around the perimeter of the Queen Anne HS building, bringing together some of the top club runners from all around Scotland including Scotland international champions, Commonwealth Games stars and a World Record holder. The evening was a brilliant spectacle of running from the grassroots up with the 59 competitors ranging from Under 13 up to the Veteran 75 age category.
The first male home, Peter Avent of Shettleston Harriers, covered the 5km in a superb time of 14 minutes and 55 seconds, with the first female, Jenny Bannerman of Inverness Harriers, clocking a brilliant 17 minutes and 20 seconds.
The biggest news of the evening was the setting of a World Best, a World Record time of 17:08 for the over 65 age category, run by Teviotdale Harriers’ Alastair Walker. Alastair broke his own world record on this new lightning fast course.
Congratulations to everyone involved for a fantastic event. Thanks to the Fife Council Community Use team for the facilities and to Steve Adam for the excellent photos.
