There were 13 PH athletes in action at last week’s Pitreavie Open Mile with almost the entire first heat made up of club members. Fastest among them was Paul Kieran who clocked an impressive 4:56.5 in second place behind Ryan Donald of Dundee Hawkhill. There then followed a succession of PH finishers with Robert Sellar third in 5:05.7 and Stuart Tite (5:11.5) both enjoying their first races since lockdown. Next home was Alan McGowan (5:16.2) who held off fellow V40s Scott Love (5:19) and Martin Butcher (5:21.8). Wright Beveridge and Kristin Lownie set new club V50 and female records with their times of 5:25.7 and 5:29.6 respectively.
Heat 2 saw Allen Marr and Alan Cockburn repeat their tussle from the recent Monument Mile, though times were down on the Stirling event with conditions not conducive to fast times. Track specialist Marr once again came out on top in a time of 5:38.6 to Cockburn’s 5:42.1. Mark Western was running his second race in a matter of days having posted a solid 39:25 in Cheshire over the weekend at the Tatton 10k, where he made his second debut in a PH vest (pictured). Over the mile he finished in 5:53.9 with Mary Western setting a new V50 record in 6:14.3. Ed Norton was the sole PH competitor in Heat 3 where he finished third in 5:56.3 to rank him 4th in the UK this year, and 24th all time in the V65 category.
The previous weekend four members had taken part in the Bennachie 50k Ultra with Paul Hammond the quickest, 20th in 5:00:17, a few minutes and three places ahead of Jordan MacDonald (5:08:14). Alan McGowan warmed up for the mile finishing in 5:27.43 while Susan Wilmanski was 13th female timing at 6:23.04.
Well done to all and thanks to our neighbours Pitreavie AAC for putting on an excellent event that proved very popular with our members.
