Saturday saw a number of PH athletes compete in the National Short Course XC Championships in Kirkcaldy alongside Olympic athlete Laura Muir. The World Championship finalist defended her Short Course XC title in superb fashion – streaking away early to ultimately win over the 4K course in a time of 12.53.
The first PH female finish came from Karen Kennedy who continued her return to fitness, finishing 2nd female in the veteran 45 category – another strong run which is ideal preparation for the next weekend’s British and Irish Cross Country International. Next female was Mary Western who produced a strong performance to also place 2nd female, in the veteran 55 category. Not far behind was Alison Whyte who placed 6th in her category, while Lesley Mealing tested herself over her first Short Course Championship.
In the men’s race there was success for two of our men as John Crookston and Ian Johnston raced well to win Sliver and Bronze national medals in the veteran 60 category, with Ed Norton narrowly missing out in the medals placing 4th.
Our first male over the line was Darren Jubb who produced a fine performance, timing at 13.33, closely followed by the ever-improving Dan Monaghan in 13.58. Robert Sellar and Jonathan Peebles were the next PH members to finish to ensure the club’s 22nd place finish in this National Championship.
Overall it was another solid performance with a number of good runs from our members in what is only our 2nd Short Course Championship. Thanks must go to all the volunteers, host club Fife Athletic Club and to xpression photography, Allen Mar and Allan Macaulay for the photographs.
