The first Sunday in October saw The Great Scottish Run in Glasgow, incorporating the Scottish Half Marathon Championships, with a good number of PH Racing Club members in action.
This championship race had a stellar line up, including a number of Olympians, with Callum Hawkins looking to retain his title. From the gun it was a trio of Hawkins, Tewelde and the British Half Marathon Champion Chris Thompson at the sharp end, with Thompson leading them through 5km in 14:46. It was a fifth mile of 4:36 that really stretched the gap and the former European 10000m silver medallist held on at the front to take the win.
There were a number of new personal bests for our members with Roger Clark the leading PH athlete, recording a new best and club record of 1.14.49 for the half marathon distance. Colin Somerville was the next member to cross the line, timing at 1.16.02, and securing a new best, while junior athlete Daniel Smith improved his best by over 8 minutes clocking an impressive 1.17.27 and finishing 2nd Junior in this National Championship. Veteran Robert Sellar also produced a impressive run to set a new best, finishing in 1.17.45, while Dan Monaghan, Johnny Cassells, Wright Beveridge, Darren Candlish, Andy Jannetta and Ed Norton all set new bests.
Anne Hartmann was our leading female in 1.26.17, with Natalie Gilliland-Paterson and Lesley Mealing completing our top 3 Females.
It was good to see such a large number of our members set new bests and benefitting from our structured training set from our coach Ben Hukins. With the road season now coming to a close we now turn our attention to the forthcoming Cross Country season.
Well done everyone on another super weekend of results for PH Racing Club and thanks to Claire Thompson for the excellent race photos.
