There was a strong showing from 18 PH Racing Club members at the Scottish 5k Road Championships on Friday evening at Silverknowes. This race has a reputation as the fastest in-depth race of that distance in Britain. There were no fewer than 318 athletes who raced under the 20-minute barrier with a time of 16.52 to make the top 100.

Ryan Lafferty was the first PH athlete to cross the line recording a season’s best time of 16:19, closely followed by Darren Jubb who took 40 seconds off his previous best to time at 16.26, Colin Somerville continued his strong start to the racing season timing at 16:41 with veteran athlete Roger Clark not far behind in 16:50. Robert Sellars went sub 17 for the first time, clocking an impressive 16.57.

There were another 5 Racing Club members to finish under 18 minutes with personal best performances for Daniel Monaghan, Wallace Mitchell, John Cassells and junior athlete Daniel Smith timing at 17:35, 17:39, 17:48, 17:48 respectively.

The performances continued with more personal bests recorded from a number of club athletes, while veteran Ed Norton produced another fantastic run to finish in 19:39 which ranks 2nd in the UK for the V65 category. Suzanne Goodall placed 3rd V40 timing at 19:58 with Hannah Devey and Natalie Gilliland-Paterson not far behind.
