The cross country season got off to an excellent start for three PH members who were among those vying for international selection at Tollcross Park in Glasgow. This trial race was held over the same course as the forthcoming British and Irish Masters Cross Country International with the first two or three runners in each category guaranteed a place on the Scotland team and others selected on current form.
In the ladies 6k race in-form Karen Kennedy placed 1st in the female 45 category, and 5th overall, in a time of 23.36. Not far behind Karen was Mary Western, crossing the line in 17th place, and 2nd Female 50, in 25.22. Congratulations to Karen and Mary who should now go on to represent Scotland in November, the first PH Racing Club members to do so.
In the mens race, Roger Clark was the sole Racing Club competitor, covering the 8k course in 20th place in a time of 29.01. As the 6th Male 45 finisher Roger will have to wait to see if his form is good enough to secure a place on the team. Final teams will be announced in a fortnight.
Thanks to Scottish Veteran Harriers Club for organising the race and for the photographs.
