There was a superb turnout of PH Racing Club members amongst the 1100 runners taking part in the annual Black Rock 5 in Kinghorn on Friday evening. As always the iconic race attracted a high class field of athletes with several of our runners featuring right at the sharp end.

Ben Hukins put in a tremendous effort finishing 3rd overall in 23.33 after a very close three way battle with race winner Murray Strain (HBT) and Edinburgh AC’s Neil Renault. The trio jostled for the lead and were together coming off the beach before Strain forged ahead to win the race in 23.24 with Renualt taking 2nd spot in 23.27.

Ryan Lafferty was also in excellent form clocking an impressive 25.42 in 15th position while Jonathan Peebles covered the 4.5 mile course in 26.36 (31st overall) and Stuart Mackay was 35th in 26.51. Colin Somerville placed 44th in 27.34 while Daniel Smith enjoyed a very strong race placing 60th overall and 2nd junior in 28.43. Rachel Drummond clocked 32.03 to finish 10th lady overall and 3rd in the Female 35 category.

Throughout the field, there were many strong performances by the growing number of PH members with Wright Beveridge enjoying a strong run on his club debut, Ian Johnston finishing 7th in his age group along with a good outing by fast improving Andy Jannetta and Robyn Warrender. Mark McKenzie and Lorraine Abbot posted good times only 5 days after Sunday’s Edinburgh Marathon.
