Last Saturday night saw a club record breaking performance from Luke McNeill at Stride Athletic’s Flat ‘n Fast 5k race night in Linlithgow.
This was another huge performance from Luke, and one that had been brewing for a while. His chip time of 15:36 in Race 3 was good enough for 15th place in a highly competitive field, on what was a wet and wild night.
Luke’s time took almost 20 seconds off the long standing club record of Jonny Peebles, dating back to the pre-Covid era.
Dan Monaghan and Paul Kieran also raced, both in another competitive field but this time in Race 4. In what was a cagey race to begin with, the fast times came with Dan setting a new PB of 16:20 on the chip, coming home in 9th place. Paul continued his decade long streak of running sub 17 mins for a 5k every year since he was 40. A time of 16:41 was a brilliant reward for the hard work he has put in on his injury comeback this year and is a big M50 performance.

Also last weekend, two of our ladies were on the trails, with both coming home first female in their respective races. Julie Menzies came out on top at Fife AC’s Last Duel Trail Race at Cardenden, finishing 7th overall in 44:10. Andy Jannetta was one place ahead, timing in 42:54. Gillian Wallace took on the Letham Glen 5k Trail Race, finishing 9th overall and top female in 20:50. Well done to both and everyone else who has been racing recently.
Our V70 men were also in winning form. Malcolm Hammond took the V70 prize at the Auchterarder 10k for the second year in a row, finishing in 46 minutes exactly. Meanwhile, Ed Norton was the top V70 at the Scottish Mile on Silverknowes Prom, clocking a time of 6:26.
Thanks to all the race organisers and to David McNulty for the race photographs from Fast ‘n Flat..
