There was a record number of finishers at this year’s Tilli 10k with 674 runners crossing the line having run along the Devon Way from Tillicoultry to Dollar and back in challenging windy conditions. 2019 winner Jamie Crowe of Central AC regained his title in a very quick 29:57 and, with no previous winners on the start line, Edinburgh AC’s Nancy Scott was able to claim her first win in a fast 33:56.
In the men’s race the top three were neck and neck at the halfway point before Crowe opened up a gap on the way back, beating Jamie Burns of Shettleston (30:10) into second, with Cameron Milne, also Central AC, another 10 seconds further back in third. It was also great to see former PH athlete Andrew Thomson just outside the podium places in a season’s best 30:35. The top four were all inside last year’s winning time.

In the women’s race, Scott was the clear winner ahead of Carnethy’s Naomi Lang, who timed at 34:40. The top three was completed by Rosa Donaldson of Bellahouston Harriers’ in 35:12. Once again, a special mention for the fourth place finisher, this time Gayle Lindsay of PH Racing who took a remarkable 89 seconds off her women’s club record set at the same race last year with a brilliant run of 35:58.

There was almost £2500 in prize money up for grabs with awards made to the top three in five year age bands. Congratulations to Stuart Livingston (Corstorphine) who won the M40 title in 32:53. The M45 prize went to Donnie Macdonald of Inverness Harriers who ran 33:43. Local boy Gerard Taylor of Central scooped the M50 prize in 37:15 and the M55 title was retained by HBT’s Steve Cairns who was actually faster with 36:12. Chris Upson from Cambuslang Harriers again took home the M60 prize having run 37:01 and Charles Graham-Marr of Central was the M65 winner in 41:27. Edinburgh AC’s James Scott won the M70 category in 43:19, exactly three minutes ahead of PH’s Malcolm Hammond, unusually the host club’s only prize winner of the day! Last but not least among the male category winners was Garscube’s Norman Baillie, who was the only entrant in the M75 category, but still ran an excellent 48:30 to earn his winnings.
In the women’s race, Helen Leigh of Inverness won the F40 prize in 37:44, with Metro’s Hazel Wyness the F45 champion in 40:24. Janet Dickson from Fife AC was faster, taking the F50 category in 39:33, with clubmate Karen Macpherson winning the F55s in 45:10. Kathleen Aubrey of Helm Hill Runners took home the F60 prize for a run of 44: 38, while Frances Wood of Linlithgow was the F65 winner in 49:08. Unattached runner Patricia Meldrum was the final winner, in the F75s, with 63:40.
We also had junior prizes. Danny Fletcher of Lothian ran 35:00 to win the male race, four and a half minutes ahead of second placed Matthew Fisher of Fife AC. In the female junior race Pitreavie twins Mirabelle and Maisey Meade were first and second in 40:49 and 42:17 respectively.
In the team event the male prize was won by the Central trio of Crowe, Milne and Alastair Marshall who finished fifth overall in 30:57. This year we also added a female team prize which was won by the Fife AC team made up of Sarah Coutts (36:50), Kerry Gibson (39:28) and aforementioned F50 winner Janet Dickson.
The final prizes were for the top three male and female locals with Clackmannanshire postcodes. Scott Green of Central was the top male, finishing 10th overall in 31:24. Lauren Sadowski of Wee County Harriers won the women’s prize in 47:02.

Thank you to all the volunteers from the club and their families, and in particular to race director Andrew Wright, without whom the event could not take place. Thanks also to Anne, Elaine and others from the Devonvale Hall for providing such an excellent venue and for mucking in to help us on the day. Once again we were provided with excellent service by Chris and his staff from Perfect Timing Scotland and our announcer Graham from You Can Sport. Thanks also to Active First Aid Scotland, who hopefully put everyone at ease with their presence at each end of the course. Thanks again to Williams Bros Brewery for providing the beer and soft drinks which were handed out before the race. The well-received medals this year were made by Tony Martin. Finally, thanks to Gordon Donnachie for coming to take photos and allowing us to reproduce them.
