Ed Norton was in action on Sunday in the Scottish Indoor Masters 3000m Championships at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow where he followed up the National Short Course XC gold he won in November with another podium-topping performance.

With just three entrants in the V70 category a medal was always on the cards, provided Ed could better the merit standard of 14:39.50 required to be eligible for one, but in reality even that was really never in doubt. Norton’s superb time of 12:00:19 gave him almost a minute’s cushion over silver medal winner Ian Johnstone of Inverness Harriers, while third-placed Peter Ogden of Cambuslang Harriers was unfortunately just outside the merit standard. Additionally, Ed’s time catapulted him to second place in the UK rankings behind new British record holder David Oxland.

Well done to all the day’s medal winners, particularly Fiona Matheson and Alastair Walker who both set new world age group records. Thanks to Scottish Athletics for another well organised event and to Rose Norton and Bobby Gavin for the photographs.

Ed will be back to the cross country mud on Saturday when he will take on the Scottish Masters XC Champs in Aberdeen, and will be hoping to pick up another medal!
