PH Racing Club’s Malcolm Hammond went back to his Yorkshire roots on Sunday, taking part in the Yorkshire Marathon, which incorporated the British Masters Marathon Championship.

Having already run a time of 3:44:49 at August’s Sunset Marathon in Edinburgh (pictured), Hammond improved by over 10 minutes, his remarkable performance of 3:34:29 earning him a silver medal in the V70 category behind Ian Kitching of Veterans AC.

Also in York was Mark Western who also posted an excellent time of 3:10:31 for a new personal best and a top 10 finish in the V55 category. Meanwhile, Mary Western was running the associated 10 Mile race where she finished as first V55 and set a new PH V50 record of 1:10:23.

On Saturday Andrew Wright was also on the hunt for club records, in his case over 5 miles at the Glasgow University 5 Mile Race. This takes place over an undulating course in the north of the city around Garscube Sports Complex and Dawsholm Park. Having targeted the V40 record of 27:46 set by Paul Kieran at Corstorphine in 2019 Wright eventually came frustratingly close to the overall club record of 26:40 held by Jonathan Peebles. His finishing time of 26:48 placed him 11th overall and 2nd V40 in an event which was always going to be full of younger athletes.

Well done to both and thanks to Graeme Baxter for the picture from the Sunset Marathon.
