It’s fair to say that track racing wasn’t often top of the agenda for PH Racing Club during our first four years but, with precious little other racing available, an incredible 19 members took part in last week’s Open Mile race put on by our neighbours Pitreavie AAC.
As with last month’s inaugural event PH members occupied the majority of places in the first and fastest heat with James Adam coming out on top in a new club record of 4:45.6. In second place was Andrew Thomson who also set a record, for the junior category, of 4:52.5; and Paul Kieran made it a 1-2-3 for PH finishing in 4:56.1.
In heat two Wright Beveridge lead the way in 5:24.4 to knock three tenths off the V50 record he set at last month’s event. Mark McLean clocked 5:31.4 in third, just holding off Kristin Lownie, fresh from her own club record of 18:17 at the previous Sunday’s Blast 5k in Edinburgh. Lownie did finish first female with Julie Menzies second in 5:52.0 on her first attempt at the event.
There was a familiar duel in heat three with Allen Marr once again edging Alan Cockburn, this time by a mere three tenths of a second, timing at 5:41.6. Ed Norton can be very happy with his personal best time of 5:52.6 ranking him 4th V65 in the year, something which Marr may be looking to better next month following a recent birthday.
There was also PH representation in heat four with Mary Western posting a time of 6:21.6 while new member Susan Allan made her track debut in heat five, leading for much of the race before finishing second in 7:00.8.
Well done to all who took part for an excellent evening’s racing and thanks to the team from Pitreavie AAC for another well organised event.
