A dreich Saturday afternoon saw six PH Racing Club teams, along with the rest of the East District clubs descend upon Glamis Castle for the East District Cross Country Relays.

In stark contrast to last year’s conditions, heavy rain added to the challenge of this 4km multi terrain course.

Darren Jubb showed his cross country strength to get the Men’s A Team off to a great start battling all the way to the line, in a superb time of 14:04, handing over to Jonny Peebles in 18th place.

Jonny followed up with a flying leg, making up four places to complete the 4kms in 14.28. Next up was Ewan Taylor, making his XC debut for PH and showing what a great addition to the squad he is, running very well in a time of 14.33.

Anchor leg saw team captain, Colin Somerville, bring the PH A Team home in a cumulative time of 57.47 to finish a very credible 15th place.

A very strong Vets team of Rab Sellar, Iain Taylor, Wright Beveridge and Andrew Wright were exactly two minutes behind the first string in a time of 59.47. This fine team performance saw them finish 4th Vets team narrowly missing out on a medal by less than 30 seconds. Andrew Wright on the anchor leg for the Vets set PH’s fastest time of the day in 14.03

Due to injury and unexpected circumstances Robyn Morrocco was PH’s sole lady competitor, running in a fine time of 17.23 to make a strong PH XC debut.

There were fine performances throughout all of the PH teams in these challenging conditions, which should prepare all for a great cross country season ahead.
