There were a number of fine runs from the 19 PH athletes who made the trip over to Edinburgh for last night’s Corstorphine 5 Mile Road Race, a counter for our Club Championship. This undulating race seems to get more popular each year and there was a strong field assembled once again.

PH’s women’s team of Karen Kennedy, Kristin Lownie and Mary Western scooped the team prize as well as the V40 award for Karen and V50 for Mary.  Karen timed at 31.36 in 5th place to set a new female club record for the distance. Kristin, setting a personal best on her debut in a PH vest, followed only 10 seconds behind in 6th and Mary completed the winning trio in 34.45.

In the men’s race Jonathan Peebles was the top performer for PH, finishing 10th overall in 28.03 and collecting 50 Club Championship points.  Not far behind was Colin Somerville, placing 13th in 28.16, with Dan Monaghan completing the men’s team in 28.35 and giving PH a 4th place finish in the team competition.

Though personal bests proved hard to come by over the tough route, there were a number of good runs from other members including John Crookston, who set a new PH V60 record of 32.18.

Well done to all PH competitors and thanks to Corstorphine AAC for putting on an extremely well organised event.
