As predicted, there were a large number of nominations for February’s PH Run of the Month, with our athletes collecting national medals and race wins throughout the month, as well as some other noteworthy performances. After a week of voting by club members, the overwhelming winner, for the second month in a row, was Malcolm Hammond.

While January’s win was in recognition of Malcolm’s achievement in cross country, his February nomination was for his V75 category 800m and 1500m gold double at the Scottish Indoor Masters Championships. Both of these were run in new Championship Record times, of 3:01.23 and 6:02.98 respectively, so it was hard to say which was the best – Runs of the Month if you like!

As previously reported, Malcolm was not alone in his indoor medal-winning exploits, with a number of his teammates also nominated for theirs. Ed Norton also won an 800m/1500m double, in the V70 age group, and Roger Clark picked up V55 1500m gold. Alastair Radbourne collected a hat trick of V60 sprint medals, winning silver at 60m and 400m before adding gold at 200m.

We had nominations for our two February half marathon winners. First was Gayle Lindsay who won the Forfar Multi Terrain Half, before Kristin Lownie repeated the trick the following week at the Innocent Half in Edinburgh. On the trails at Devilla Forest, reigning Club Champion Luke McNeil got his defence off to a great start with a second placed finish in the 15k, while John Crookston was nominated for the first time for his V60 win the 5k event.

Julie Menzies and Ben Hukins found themselves on the ballot having once again shown themselves to be our best cross country performers at the National XC Championships at Falkirk.

And finally, one of our newer members, Jordy Hutt has been racking up the races while in Mexico. He has run at least two 5ks and one 10k, as well as two half marathons which he has run in almost identical times. His Run of the Month nomination was for the Guadalajara Half which he ran in 1:31:45 despite the heat and altitude.

Well done to all and especially our winner Malcolm Hammond. Given that he followed up his 800m/1500m double with another gold at 3000m on the first day of March, who would bet against him being the first person to win this award three months in a row?
