PH Racing Club’s annual awards took place on Saturday as part of our Christmas Night Out at Pitreavie Golf Club. We already knew our Club Champions were Luke McNeil and Kristin Lownie, with both recording perfect scores of 400 for their eight counting races. Kristin had also picked up the top prize for our Parkrun Competition over the year, as well as the Festive Parkrun trophy for her run that morning in Dunfermline. Andrew Wright collected the inaugural Marathon Championship for his outstanding run at the Frankfurt Marathon.

What wasn’t known before the awards night was the winner of our Run of the Year Award. This was the third time we have presented this award with Graeme Doig winning in 2023 and Laura Ross and Paul Hammond sharing it in 2024. For the first time this year we ran a Run of the Month each month with the annual nominees comprised of each of the winners from December 2024 to November 2025. We have reported on the winners each month but, as a reminder, here they are again:

December 2024 – Gayle Lindsay – Tilli 10k
Outstanding run of 35:58 at our own Tilli 10k. This was not only a huge PB, but also knocked 89 seconds off the previous women’s club record, set by Gayle at the same event in 2023.

January – Gayle Lindsay – Bermuda Triangle Challenge
Gayle ran in the elite women’s mile race on the Friday night running a time of 5:21. She then ran 37.23 in the 10k, before rounding off with a PB of 1:24.20 in the half marathon on Sunday, placing 3rd female overall. She was first local female in all of the races.

February – Julie Menzies – Scottish Masters XC V50 Silver
Julie won a V50 silver medal at the National Masters Cross Country Championships. The race took place on a tough 6k course at Camperdown Park, Dundee, where Julie finished 15th overall in 27:01.

March – Sarah Paterson – Tokyo Marathon
This was the final race Sarah needed to complete the six ‘Marathon Majors’, having already run the London, Berlin, Chicago, New York and Boston Marathons. Despite the very hot conditions, she managed an excellent run of 3:33.

April – Malcolm Hammond – London Marathon Scottish V70 Silver
Excellent run of 4:02 at the London Marathon which saw him medal in the Scottish Marathon Championship for the third year in a row, this time winning V70 silver.

May – Ed Norton – 5k Champs V70 Gold
Ed’s third consecutive V70 gold medal in Sri Chinmoy Scottish 5k Championships, having also taken silver in 2022. On this occasion he timed at 20:37 which at the time ranked him 8th in the UK and 1st in Scotland for 2025.

June – Andy Davis – Moray Way 100
Andy took on the Moray Way 100 Mile Ultra but the race was curtailed to 120km due to a wildfire. Since Andy was leading, having already covered 138km before raising the alarm himself, he was declared the winner of what turned out to be a race he will never forget.

July – Dan Monaghan – Brig Bash 5
Dan’s personal best time of 27:15 for the 5 mile distance also secured him 50 points in the club championship where he eventually finished third.

August – Kristin Lownie – Kirkcaldy Parks Half Marathon race win
Kristin’s time of 1:28:41 placed her first female in this big local race and actually gave her her third nomination of that month alone, having already been put forward for placing first female at the Graham Clark Memorial Race, and also for her earlier run at the Ceres 8.

September – Luke McNeil – Fast ‘n’ Flat 5k club record
Luke has been in excellent form all year, and had been nominated almost every month for Run of the Month, without coming out on top. He finally won for his club record run of 15:36 at the Fast ‘n’ Flat 5k in Linlithgow

October – Kristin Lownie – Great Scottish Run 2nd V40
This time Kristin was nominated for her club record run of 1:22:27 at the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow, where she also finished as 2nd V40 behind Olympian Freya Ross.

November – Luke McNeil – Bellahouston HM race win and almost club record
An outstanding performance by Luke at the Up And Running Half Marathon at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, where he was the overall winner by a margin of more than 5 minutes. His time of 1:12:05 was only seconds away from Ben’s club record.

After a poll of club members, all runs had picked up some votes, but there was a clear winner. The main photo is a bit of a giveaway in that it was Kristin Lownie, for her October run at the Great Scottish Run. Remarkably, she also beat herself into (joint) second place with Ed Norton! Well done once again to Kristin and all the other monthly winners and nominees. Some months had a number of worthy winners who can count themselves extremely unfortunate not to have ended up on the shortlist above.

We are looking forward to seeing what 2026 brings!
