Over the weekend, two members of PH Racing Club took on the 95 mile West Highland Way Race. This race starts in Milngavie at 1am on Saturday morning with runners having 35 hours to negotiate various checkpoints, almost 15000 feet of ascent and arrive in Fort WIlliam where they are presented with a coveted finishers’ goblet.

Andy Jannetta completed the race for the second time, having previously run it in 2019. He finished in a excellent 16th place, taking over an hour off his previous time to cross the line in 21 hours, 19 minutes and 13 seconds.

Martin McNellis was running the race for the first time, having had to withdraw before last year’s event due to injury. He’s had a succession of other injuries and illnesses ever since but still managed to tough it out to finish well within the time limit in 33 hours, five minutes and 4 seconds.

On Sunday, Nathan Duncan and Ruth Harvey also headed west to race the Port Glasgow 10k. Rapidly improving Nathan secured another PB of 39:57 to add to his recent efforts at 1 mile, 2 mile and 5k. His better half Ruth was happy to be close to her best time with 53:52 on a wet and windy day on the coast.

Closer to home the Glenrothes 10k also took place with Luke McNeil once again leading the way for PH and finishing 6th in 36 mins dead. Mark Western finished as 2nd V60 in 42:16, while Lauren Bennet was the only PH female, running 58:07.

Last but not least, Phil Waring took part in the inaugural Race The Tram event in Edinburgh, organised by Blast Running. This race wasn’t timed but involved getting the tram from Edinburgh Park Central to Newhaven Terminus (or St Andrew’s Square if you preferred) and trying to beat the tram back to where you started by
any route. Phil did just that finishing 2nd overall, having covered the approximately 7.5 mile route back from Newhaven in about 45 minutes.

Well done to all and to Andy and Martin’s support teams who helped get them to the finish. Thanks also to all the race organisers for continuing to put on these excellent races.
