Last Friday night we had another Club Championship race with the Fife AC 2 Mile Race held at Kirkcaldy Prom. An out and back race, it had a nice tailwind going out but it was a lot more difficult coming back! Once again the top male performer was Luke McNeil who smashed the club record for this distance with a great run of 9:59 for 3rd overall, while Kristin Lownie finished 1st female in 11:57 to also set a new club record.

Ben Hukins finished 1st V40 in 10:19, ahead of Dan Monaghan who ran 10:33. Stuart Meiklejohn and Nathan Duncan ran their first ever 2 mile races in 11:18 and 11:40 repectively. Mark McLean posted a time of 12:16 and Ed Norton was 1st V70 in 13:04.

Looking at the UK rankings, when this race gets posted Ben, Stuart, Mark and Ed should all be ranked UK no 1 in their age categories for this, admittedly rarely run, distance. Thanks to Fife AC/Kirkcaldy Wizards for putting on a great no frills race that you can enter on the night.

At the start of the month, Ed also had an excellent run at the Helix 3k, hosted by Falkirk Victoria Harriers. His time of 12:08 placed him as 1st V70 as well as 1st overall by age grade. Willie Rennie also had a fine run at the undulating Strathearn Marathon, finishing as 2nd V50 in 3:12:28. Meanwhile, Kristin Lownie was the sole PH representative at the Roon the Toon 10k at Kilmarnock. This year’s race was highly competitive as it incorporated the Scottish 10k Championship and Kristin finished 7th V40 in 39:53.

Last weekend, Ewan Taylor took on the hilly Isle of Skye Marathon where he finished 4th in 1:18:30 and took home the V40 prize. Over in the capital, mountain goat Phil Waring ran the Seven Hills of Edinburgh Race, finishing in 2:00:29. This race is approximately 14 miles depending what route you take. At the Dechmont Law 10k Trail Race in Livingston, Derek Cosgrove was the leading PH runner with a time of 47:41, just ahead of Mark Western who was 2nd V60.

Well done to all mentioned above and to everyone else who has been racing so far this month. Thanks to the various race organisers and to Andy Lafferty for the race photos.
