Nineteen PH athletes toed the line at last night’s Sri Chinmoy Scottish 5k Championships at Silverknowes, Edinburgh, where Ed Norton and Julie Menzies both added to their national medal collection. As ever, it was a high standard race with the top 35 all breaking the 15 minute barrier.
Ed Norton secured his third successive V70 title with an excellent run of 20:37, only three seconds ahead of silver-medalist Jim Scott of Edinburgh AC. Julie Menzies is also a previous medalist at the event and was in great form again, winning V50 bronze in 19:30.


Top placed for PH was once again Luke McNeil who was just a second outside Jonathan Peebles’ club 5k record, set at the same race in 2019, finishing in 15:54. Aaron Bennet was one of another trio under 17 minutes in 16:28, ahead of Dan Monaghan (16:36) and Phil Waring (16:44). A further three broke 18 minutes with Roger Clark finishing 7th V50 in 17:12 ahead of Peter Gibson (17:25), who came out on top in his tussle with Stuart Meiklejohn (17:33).
Mark McLean had another good run of 18:44, just ahead Johnny Cassells (18:53). Nathan Duncan, ran a huge PB of 19 minutes dead, with Martin Butcher timing the same. Wright Beveridge, warming up for next weekend’s Edinburgh Marathon, was only 5 seconds back.

Kristin Lownie ran a good race to finish as 6th V40 in 19:15 and secure another 50 Club Championship points. Defending club champion Sarah Paterson got her first points on the board, running 20:51, just a second faster than John Crookston who also placed highly in the strong V60 category. Dave Morton completed the PH contingent, running 21:34.
