Ten from PH Racing Club took on the Tay Ten on Sunday with four of them making the top 10. The popular 10 mile race starts at the George Duncan Track in Perth then takes competitors around the North Inch, along the Tay and back to the finish at the track.
First finisher for the club was Luke McNeil who recovered from being hit on the leg by a golf ball to claim another podium finish in third place, timing at 56:51. Dan Monaghan also had trouble early in the race, with a wrong turn costing a few seconds, but nevertheless had an excellent run of 57:55 for sixth position. Completing an unusually youthful PH men’s team was Aaron Bennet who was eighth in 58.12. The team finished second to Dundee Road Runners who had a hugely impressive turnout.

There was then a battle of the Stuarts, with Stuart Green coming out on top on this occasion and also dipping under the hour to finish ninth, and first V40, in 59:49. Just on the other side of 60 minutes was Stuart Meiklejohn, 11th, and second V40, in 60:18. Ed Norton rounded off the male prize winners on the day, taking home the V70 prize for his run of 73:44.

First PH female was Kristin Lownie who matched Luke’s third place, coming home in 65:46. Julie Menzies won the V50 prize and also set a new age category course record of 67:55. Well done to all who took part in this fourth race in the Club Championship. The next two races are Black Rock ‘5’ this Friday and the Scottish 5k Championships at Silverknowes next Friday.

Ewan Taylor was also racing over the weekend, at the Archiestown 5k in Speyside, which he described as a hilly route. This did not stop him from coming second overall in 17:32. Wright Beveridge went a bit longer, taking on the Edinburgh to North Berwick 20 Mile race where he finished 24th and 2nd V50 in 2:18:36.
Thanks to Pete Bracegirdle and Brian Stewart for the excellent race photos and Perth Road Runners for putting on another superb race.
