March’s Run of the Month vote was a close run affair with lots of worthy nominations, and also a number of deserving runs which didn’t even make it onto the ballot.
In the end, the winning run was from right back at the start of the month when Sarah Paterson took on the Tokyo Marathon. This was the final race Sarah needed to complete the six ‘Marathon Majors’, having already run the London, Berlin, Chicago, New York and Boston Marathons. Despite the very hot conditions, she managed an excellent run of 3:33 which topped the voting and means Sarah now joins Gayle Lindsay (twice!) and Julie Menzies on the Run of the Year shortlist.

Andrew Wright had a very busy March and was nominated by various people for three different races. The one that went on the ballot was the Tom Scott 10 Mile Race where he ran 57:23 to win a Scottish Championship silver medal and also break the PH Racing Club V50 record. Earlier in the month he had run half marathons on successive weekend, firstly in Inverness where he won a V50 Scottish Championship bronze medal in 1:16:27, then the next week where he ran even faster at Alloa to break the V50 half record with 1:14:53.
Luke McNeil also doubled up running both Inverness and Alloa, with a new PB of 1:14:13 at Alloa, where he was the first PH finisher in what was a Club Championship race. Dan Monaghan also had an excellent run at the Alloa Half, where he surprised himself with a run of 1:16:52. It’s great to see Dan almost back to his best after a couple of years of injuries. Kristin Lownie was also nominated for her run of 1:27:32 which secured her the 3rd V40 prize.
Malcolm Hammond was another who had a good run at Alloa, winning the 1st V70 prize though his nomination this month came for British Masters Cross Country Championships in Glasgow where he added a British silver to the Scottish one he won the previous month.
Finally, at the end of the month, Gayle Lindsay represented Bermuda at the World Masters 10k Championships which were incorporated into the World Masters Indoor Championships taking place in Gainesville, Florida. Gayle’s time of 36:34 secured her a V35 silver medal as well as a nomination for Run of the Month! Kat Lindsay was also there, representing the British Virgin Islands, and finished 5th V35 in 39:28.
