Our club championship races are now coming thick and fast and the seventh counter took place on Sunday at the Loch Leven Half, hosted by Kinross Road Runners. There was a large contingent of 15 athletes from PH who made the short journey to Kinross with four of them winning their respective age categories.

Fastest for PH was Ben Hukins who finished fourth overall in 1:17:27 and scooped the V40 prize. Next home was Aaron Bennet who took home the junior prize for his run of 1:20:08. This also moved Aaron into pole position in the club championships, albeit having run one more race than some of his nearest rivals.

Alan McGowan was already running his third half marathon of the year and bettered his times from Inverness and Prague with a new personal best of 1:26:06. John Crookston also had an excellent run to finish runner-up in the V60 category with his time of 1:28:22.

Judy Turner was the solitary PH female to take part and so she picked up 50 club championship points in addition to the V50 prize, finishing in 1:38:13. This was Judy’s second race of the week, having already completed the Dumyat Hill Race on Wednesday. She was joined among the prize winners by Malcolm Hammond who was also a category winner, claiming the V70 prize in 1:40:37.

Well done to those mentioned and all other members who raced. Thanks to Kinross Road Runners for putting on an excellent event and to Gordon Donnachie for his superb race photos.

Elsewhere at the weekend Ed Norton was unfortunately our sole representative at the Shettleston 10k at Glasgow Green. This year the event incorporated the Scottish !0k Championships and Ed backed up last week’s 5k gold with another first place here, timing at 42:56. Huge congratulations to Ed on yet another Scottish title.

There were also two Fife AC events with the Ravenscraig Mile Race taking place on Friday. Aaron Bennet warmed up for his half marathon with a run of 4:50 to place fifth overall. Alan McGowan wasn’t resting up either and enjoyed a tussle with Gary Pirie, coming out on top in 5:16 to Pirie’s 5:19. Graham McInnes was yet another who was doubling up with the Loch Leven Half and he also enjoyed a good run to finish in 5:44. On Saturday it was the Norman’s Law Hill Race up at Luthrie. Iain Wallace was the only PH runner, and was lucky enough to finish 13th in 39:34. Thanks to Fife AC for putting on these great local races.
