Last month saw the the University of Stirling once again host the East District Cross Country Championships, with 15 PH Racing Club athletes taking part and a number of them amongst the medals.

In the ladies race there was a superb gold medal for new V50 Julie Menzies who also beat all but one of the V40s, clocking a time of 36:10. Julie was in excellent form in 2022, winning a number of national and district medals and well as the PH Racing Club Championship! The other female representative for the club was Louise Lessels whose time of 42:22 for the three lap, 8.6km course placed her in the top 10 for the V40 category.

Top performer for PH in the men’s race was Andy Davis, who took home a V40 silver, his run of 30:49 putting him just 5 seconds behind gold medalist Michael Reid of Carnethy. Davis was also part of the gold medal winning PH men’s masters team along with Andrew Wright and Mark Ryan who timed at 31:55 and 32:26 respectively. 2022 was quite a year for our men’s masters, starting off by winning the East District XC League and Scottish Masters XC team gold, and finishing off with gold in the Scottish XC Relays and East District XC Championship.

There was a number of other excellent performances with Phil Waring fastest of our seniors, finishing 99th overall in 33:40. John Crookston was just outside the top three in the V60 category with his run of 38:29 and Malcolm Hammond was the quickest V70, running 43:11, though there was unfortunately no medal up for grabs!

Well done to everyone including those not mentioned and thanks to Scottish Athletics and Central AC for putting on another tremendous event. Thanks also to Neil Renton and Paul Hammond who provided the excellent photos.
